Depression Self Help
Depression self help can be every bit as effective as anti depression medication in many cases. And if you’re taking anti depression medication, depression self help can boost the power of that
medication big time!
I’ve tried many different ways to deal with depression—psychiatric
care, a dozen different medications, therapy, group therapy, hypnotherapy, nutritional therapy, natural supplements, light therapy, and more
alternate healing modalities than I can list here. I was once told by a psychiatrist that if I
stopped taking medications and left his care, I’d be hospitalized within a few months.
Guess what? I was never
hospitalized.
I discovered that depression self help, the right kind of depression self help, is more powerful than anything else I’ve done to
relieve depression.
Depression Treatment
Depression treatment doesn’t have to come from someone outside of
you. You can be your own source of depression treatment.
The best depression treatment I know of is a form of depression self help that seems almost silly in its simplicity. But let me tell you, as a former bipolar sufferer who enjoys a joy-filled life of success and well-being,
I can attest to the effectiveness of this method.
Are you ready to find out how to slay the misery monster you call depression?
Here’s the way you do it.
Practice changing your physical state.
What do I mean by that?
Well, I DON’T mean moving to a different place.
Changing state is a concept self help author and speaker, Tony Robbins, uses regularly to transform people from miserable to
powerful overnight. To change your physical state, you simply change the way you use your
body.
For example, are you sitting at your computer all slumped over with a blank or sad expression on your face? Is your breathing shallow? Are your shoulders down, your
back curved?
If you’re suffering from clinical depression or the downswing of manic
depression, you’re probably in a state quite similar to what I just described.
So here’s what I’d like you to do, please.
Start by sitting up straight.
Put your shoulders back.
Smile. Smile big!
Now do a little jitterbug dance in your chair. Gyrate around a bit.
Bop your head like you’re listening to music.
Now laugh.
Okay, tell me. How do you feel?
Any better?
I’m going to bet that you DO feel better.
Now, if you’re severely depressed, I’m sure you want to smack me right
about now. I know I felt that way the first time I heard about this technique. I thought, “YOU bop around and laugh. I’m too depressed to
laugh.”
But then I figured, what do I have to lose? My depression? Well, that would be okay, wouldn’t it?
And I tried it. Guess what? I felt a
little better. Just a little.
I slumped again and felt worse.
Changed physical state again and felt better.
I began practicing this method daily. I PRETENDED to be cheerful. The more I pretended, the more I
actually began to feel better.
Of course, it was more complicated than that. I had to learn to change my thoughts
and beliefs too. And I developed a more detailed self care routine. But the changing of physical state was a BIG part of the depression self help that transformed my
life.
Please don’t dismiss this as being silly. Try it. It’s a powerful method of depression self help.
